PETER PAN - FUN FACTS
The children of a family friend were the inspiration for the characters of Peter and the Lost Boys in James Barrie’s play Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up. When their parents died Barrie unofficially adopted them. Because of his love and concern for children, Barrie gave the rights to his Peter Pan plays and novels to the Great Ormand Street Hospital for children in London.Through the years there have been thousands of stage and film productions starring many of the most distinguised actors of the their generation. Starting at the top from left to right: Nina Boucicault (1904, first production), Veronica Lake (1950), Jean Arthur (1950, music & lyrics by Leonard Bernstein with Boris Karloff as Captain Hook), Mary Martin (1954 with Cyril Ritchard, music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Comden & Green), Mia Farrow (1976, with Danny Kaye), Cathy Rigby (1979), Sandy Duncan (1966) and Allison Williams (2014, live TV with Christopher Walken).
Here’s a video of one of Family Stages’ two musical productions. Charles Gilbert, Jr. provided the music and lyrics to Steve Seyfried’s script. TheHoliday Goose is based on Italy’s classic popular theater, the commedia dell’arte. The story features two wacky servants who create more crises than they solve.
